They were invited to see the author Joseph Aaron Coelho, a British poet and children's book author. The children were lucky enough to be picked to meet the author and get their book signed after the talk.

]]> Sun, 3 Nov 2024 14:50:38 GMT https://www.josephhood.merton.sch.uk/news/?pid=8&nid=1&storyid=5 <![CDATA[ PTFA's spectacular Annual Fun Run! ]]> https://www.josephhood.merton.sch.uk/news/?pid=8&nid=1&storyid=3 Saturday 18th May was our PTFA's 2nd annual Fun Run!  IT was amazing o see so many families join in.  The weather was perfect and even families just playing in the park asked if they could join in with the run, who came from other schools in the area.  We had a staff members helping the PTFA with all sorts of jobs and some staff managed to run as well! All in all, a really good day! Thank you to everybody who participated, helped organise and give up in their spare time to make this a fantastic event!

In the 'Coding the Capital' workshop, the children enjoyed using the coding blocks to program a train along a track, making it go faster, slower and even reverse!

Our water play area has successfully been installed in the Early Years playground and looks fantastic! The children couldn't wait to get playing.  It has truly elevated the quality of provision in our outdoor area for the Early Years children. The children absolutely love exploring their new area; as you can see from the photos!

Our goal scorers were Lyra, Himari and Olive and our great goal keeper, Isabella created some fantastic saves!

]]> Sun, 3 Nov 2024 15:45:18 GMT https://www.josephhood.merton.sch.uk/news/?pid=8&nid=1&storyid=26 <![CDATA[ Banji Alexander visits our School!​​​​​​​ ]]> https://www.josephhood.merton.sch.uk/news/?pid=8&nid=1&storyid=27 As the Teacher-turned-Author approached the School Gate, he pressed the buzzer and walked through.  He was greeted with screams and cries of ‘Its Banji Alexander!!’ Whoops of joy continued from the children until they couldn’t see him any more as he passed through to the main school office.

Thanks to Mrs Davies’ work in assemblies with the schoolchildren, they were VERY excited to finally, meet this man! And he didn’t disappoint!  As a previous primary school teacher, he knew how to engage them from Year 1 to Year 6.  He read some excerpts from his book, tantalising them to want to read what happened to Reggie and his looming birthday party. Banji commented on their wonderful hats and gave out the personally signed, pre-ordered books. After School, at 3.15pm, he had more work to do – sign more books for parents and their children.  I just hope he had brought enough!  To see more about Banji and his books go to https://banjialexander.com/
