Our Outside Space
Here at Joseph Hood, we have a fantastic outside space for the children to learn and play in. We have a large main playground that is used by children in Years 1 to 6 and includes grassy areas and extensive climbing equipment.
At the back of the main playground we have a beautiful, covered outdoor classroom that is used by the whole school.
Leading off the Foundation Stage classrooms, we have a purpose-built playground exclusively for our Reception and Nursery children. This is equipped with appropriate imaginative play equipment and used throughout the day. It has also recently been updated with a Water Wall which was kindly funded by our schools' PTFA.
Our main playground is used for PE lessons, Early Years and KS1 Sports Days. KS2 Sports Day is held at The Old Rutlishians Club.
We have had extensive work done on our playground to update it to enable us to enjoy a variety of activities safely and inclusively. With the recent updates, our playground now offers enhanced features such as modern equipment, improved accessibility, and dedicated spaces for different sports and recreational activities, ensuring it caters to the needs and interests of all age groups and abilities.

Thanks to the Big Lottery Match Funding, Sugar Tax Fund and our fantastic PTFA, we have large climbing equipment installed in our main playground. We even have a weatherproof table tennis table! We are developing our playground further this year by adding a growing area, KS2 mud kitchen, Willow Dome and Den building area.
