Homework

At Joseph Hood we set home learning on a weekly basis. This is tailored to what your child has been learning in the classroom. We believe that home learning is an important way to prepare children for new learning and apply key skills that have been learnt in school.

For years 1–6, directed home learning is set on Google Classroom on a Friday and handed back in the following Wednesday. We ask parents to ensure that home learning is handed in on time and that it represents a child's best efforts. If a child does not have access to Google Classroom, we can either provide a paper copy or support them in our homework club run once a week.

Years 1 & 2: Home learning will alternate weekly with literacy and maths.

Years 3 & 4: Home learning will alternate weekly with literacy and maths. They will also get weekly times tables practice which is set through your childs Times Tables Rockstars account.

Years 5 & 6 : Home learning will have maths and literacy weekly.

Supporting your child with their home learning can really help improve their progress and achievement. We ask that parents and carers try to make homework part of the family routine and create a distraction-free space for the children to complete their tasks.

As part of a child's home learning, they are asked to read aloud to an adult every day.

Home learning will be acknowledged by the Class Teacher. Reading records will be monitored weekly.

Early Years home learning will be sent on a Friday on Evidence Me. This will be a variety of activities - eye spy, naming writing, sharing the story of the week, sound hunts, cutting skills etc. These activities will support your child in their early development.

All children also have a 2 weekly 'project' style piece of home learning. This is optional. When a child completes their home learning project, they may get chosen to show it in our weekly celebration assemblies and are then invited to have afternoon tea with Mr Waterman. Photos also go onto our weekly newsletter.
