At Joseph Hood Primary School we are committed to ensuring that all pupils
in Years 1-6 receive 2 hours of high quality PE each week. Pupils in the Foundation Stage receive one discrete PE session per week alongside their continuous indoor and outdoor physical development activities.
For the past two years we have been awarded the Merton Sports Mark Silver award. With a yearly increase in the scores we have achieved, this represents our commitment to ensuring that all of our pupils are able to access a range of sporting opportunities.
Sport at Joseph Hood covers a whole range of physical activities, including gymnastics, games, dance and athletics. We are also lucky to be able to offer swimming lessons at Morden Pool to pupils. Next year, Year 4 will have a two-week block of daily swimming lessons of one hour each, with Year 6 having a two-week 'top-up' later in the year. Parents/carers are asked to make a contribution of £5.00 per day to cover the cost of the
coach to and from the pool.
As you can see from the data analysis assessed by the Merton swim instructors below, the amount of children able to swim and gain 'water confidence' is dramatically improved with these important life skills.
