What our parents say about our school

We are fully committed to the partnership between home, school and the community, working together to support children to achieve success.  We value the communication and partnership and encourage parents and carers to become involved in a broad range of school activities.

“We think we are so lucky to have such an excellent school on our doorstep! The school's reputation for looking at each child as an individual is very much deserved, and we've felt well supported as parents of a schild who needs some additional help with his learning. Our son settled into Reception quickly, made friends, really likes all his teachers, and loves his time at school. He even asks if he's going to school at the weekend! There's a really welcoming, village-y feel to the school as a whole as well. Our family feels actively part of the local community now, thanks to Joseph Hood School”

“My husband and I chose Joseph Hood School because we love the caring attitude of the staff at the school, and the warm atmosphere they create for the children. My children are thriving and are well taught, with their strengths recognised and challenged further, and with support and help for those areas they find harder. The friendly school community and good relationships amongst the parents are also another reason I love the school."

“We have a family history of attendance at JHPS (20+yrs old!) and live close by; it was our first choice. Since accepting out place we have found the school to be excellent, welcoming, supportive and friendly, not just the staff but students too."

“As a new Reception parent to Joseph Hood School I have been extremely happy with our experience so far. My daughter loves coming to school and she has settled in really well, particularly as she knew no other children at the school when she started. I have been really impressed with the teachers and how they have been able to give her the time and recognition to develop at the pace she needs and wants to. I think the school is really changing and developing in a positive way and I look forward to being part of that."

“We chose Joseph Hood because of its friendly atmosphere and both my daughters love being here. The teaching is great and our girls have been challenged to achieve their best, while also taking part all sorts of fun opportunities and exciting events.”

“We moved to Joseph Hood at the start of last term and have been constantly bowled over by the staff's commitment to the welfare of our children; not just their academic attainment, but their general well-being and rounded development. I can't thank them enough for all they have done to help the kids settle in & catch up on areas of the curriculum we had missed whilst overseas without making them feel like they were lagging behind.

I love the community feel of the school; the teachers & office staff are so warm & approachable - not something I have experienced at our other schools. It's easy to contact them to ask questions & discuss concerns; they are always ready to listen and help.

I'd particularly like to commend the school for fostering a 'sane' attitude to the SATS amongst the Y6 students. Thank you for preparing the children so well; not just academically but also for helping them understand that all that is expected of them is their own personal best. My daughter was so calm about the tests that we nearly forgot they were happening! She loved the fact that the teachers gave the students breakfast before each exam; thank you for showing that leaders often have to serve.”

“Joseph Hood is an AMAZING school. It's like being in a big family; all the staff (from the office, to the teachers to the Head Teacher) know every single child by name. My daughter wasn't able to say a single word in English when she started Nursery, but everyone was so lovely and welcomed her so warmly- in a blink she was talking amazingly. I couldn't be happier and I'm really looking forward to my son joining the school soon.”

“Joseph Hood is a warm and welcoming school with great opportunities for children supported by good quality teaching, a broad curriculum and modern facilities.

Our children have thrived here since they started in nursery and we are very happy with our choice of school.”

“We chose Joseph Hood from Nursery for our son who is now in Year 4. As an early and enthusiastic reader, it was - and still is - important to us to ensure that he is in a school that engages and challenges him without compromising the importance of allowing creative and playful learning across the curriculum. We also appreciate the supportive and friendly community the school offers - my family is in the States, so we need a school that offers more than just a basic 9am-3pm day of lessons.”

“I would highly recommend this school. My children have various different needs and the school is quick to contact you, support you and have helped me and my daughter greatly. They are friendly, helpful and I feel happy that my children are safe in their hands.”

We have had some wonderful comments from parents & carers about the online learning during the covid lockdown periods. Thank you very for those parents and carers who have emailed in.  Here are some of the comments...

'Hey all staff,

I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for setting up an amazing remote learning for the children. I have spoken to a lot of parents in different areas who have said it’s literally just work given to them with no support. I am super thankful that you as a school have come up with a timetable for learning and there are actual live lessons going on I really do appreciate this, as I’m sure the other parents do too. keep up the great work!'

'I just wanted to email the school and say thank you ever so much for all you are doing for the home schooling. ***** is working ever so well with how you have set it out. I’m ever so pleased with the amount of live contact she has with the teacher and pupils. It really is amazing to hear her be able to talk to teachers and pupils. Amazing Job Joseph Hood, fantastic!'

'Dear Mrs Saville and Mrs Wright,

I just wanted to drop a quick note to say a huge thank you for all the effort that the staff is making to keeping our kids connected and learning and active.

A massive thank you to Miss Ranger for showing amazing patience with our children this week, I’m sure she is having nightmares of saying “mute please” and for Mrs Sarah helping out.

Also Mrs Child’s and Miss Hargrave are doing an excellent job for the little ones.

I struggle to see any of us keeping this up until the end of March, but know we will be praying as a family for all of you for wisdom, safety, health, stamina and perseverance.'

'To all the staff,

I just wanted to write and say thank you for all you’re doing to make the online learning possible. We’re so thankful for the online lessons, and are conscious that this must be such a lot of work for those teaching and everyone supporting with the tech. ****** is engaged with her learning and enjoying being able to see her teacher and classmates. What you’re doing is amazing. Thank you so much.'

'Dear Mrs Saville and all the team.

I would like to say a huge heart felt thank you to all of you for working so hard in preparing the school during this time and how well you're all doing teaching in school and home via the live lessons. ******* feels this is really working and is confident she will be ok if she has to do some remote learning.

You have organised everything extremely well and made important information clear putting parents at ease. The home/school communication has been excellent!

This is such a stressful time for every one of us and we are all doing what we can. If you didn't have ******* in school, I wouldn't be able to do my job.

(as much as I'd like to be home keeping my family safe.) My family and I really appreciate all the hard work, care and support you all show each and every day, and with smiles on your faces.'

'Dear All,

I write to say a huge thank you for your great work in team teaching year 5.

I cannot tell you how great it is to see ******* sat in front of the PC at 9am seeing her classmates and hearing your voices. She had school on speaker for the first bit yesterday and I was working in the room and I tapped into your energy and inspiration too! You have really got this - it’s absolutely terrific what you are doing, combining teaching the children in school and at home. The structure is good, the sessions are broken up with your teaching then work for the children to do, nice long lunch break is really helpful and PE videos as well. Well done, well done, well done! I simply wanted to tell you that your amazing work in these really difficult circumstances is so appreciated.

Sending my best wishes and appreciation to you for putting this tremendous new school on the road so well.'

'Dear Joseph Hood School,

I just wanted to say a big thank you for putting on excellent online lessons and providing us with a chrome book to assist home learning. You are doing a brilliant job, I even did a PE lesson this morning before breakfast with ****. He is learning all sorts of life skills such as working on his own initiative, working under pressure, managing his own time and being responsible for logging onto lessons on time on top of the normal curriculum.
I worried he would really struggle this term but it’s much more successful than anticipated so far. A big thank you.'

'Dear Mrs Saville, and all of the team at JoHo,

I just wanted to drop you a line to say thank you for the incredible job that you are all doing.  The whole process has been so straight forward, and seems from our end like you have been doing it for years.  The lessons both of my kids are receiving have been engaging, interesting and leaving them wanting more, and for that we cannot thank you enough.

I know that you are juggling so many balls, wearing a million hats and no doubt just surviving from day to day, but all of that hard work is making it possible for us to be able to manage at home, and at the same time feel that our kids are getting a fantastic all round education.

Well done for getting to the end of week 2.  We are feeling ready for the weekend, and are going to really welcome the Wellbeing Wednesday next week.  I am currently working for ***- and I have to say that the level of comms and output that you are putting out, is on a par with their comms- and they no doubt have a massive team doing that, so credit to you.

Have a great weekend and we look forward to seeing you all online next week!'
