• Christmas lunches at school this week!

  Round 1 of the Christmas lunches.  It was the Reception children's first one at our school and we think they all enjoyed it - especially all cheering at the sound of the crackers snapping! Years 1 and 2 had a sing-song while pulling crackers and eating their lunch. They enjoyed being served by our staff 'waiters and waitresses!'

  

• Year 2 re-enact the Great Fire of London at the Workshop!

  The Year 2 children enjoyed a workshop, spending the day as a Londoner during the Great Fire of London. They used role-play to enact helping put the fire out with buckets.  They were also bakers in the Pudding Lane bakeries and wrote diaries as if they were Samuel Pepys.  They all knew where he put the cheese to keep it safe!

  

• Cinderella was a hit with our children! OH YES IT WAS!

  Reception to Year 3s had a fantastic morning on 5^th December (oh yes they did!) watching Chaplins’ Pantomime Cinderella. The children could be heard shouting and screaming from the other end of the building. They laughed and sang (and shouted) with the creative actors who played Cinderella, Buttons, The Two Ugly Sisters, the Fairy Godmother and of course, the very charming Prince Charming. What a way to start this Tuesday!

  

• Our annual Christmas tree looks delightful!

  Mrs Saville's favourite assembly of the year came around again on the 4th December! Years 1 to 6 congregated in the hall for our Christmas Tree Decoration Assembly!

  Each class came up with their beautiful, sparkling hand-made decorations and added them to our tree.  Once all were in place we made a loud countdown from 5 and switched on the Christmas lights. Everyone's face lit up and we all cheered! Christmas has begun at Joseph Hood!

  

• Children's Bazaar made it the best 1st December EVER!

  Friday 1st December was a treat for all!  The children were able to buy presents for their friends and family (and some teachers) at the PTFA-run Christmas Bazaar.  Each year group came in separately to avoid over-crowding at the busiest market in town!  There was such a lot of different items to buy; candles, keyrings, bracelets, hairbands, bookmarks, snow globes and so much more.

  Our PTFA parents had a very long and busy day.  Thank you to everyone who made this such a great day for the children!

   

   

   

  

• A day of all things Science!

  On Friday 19th November, we celebrated Science Day with a plethora of different experiments and scientific theories throughout the school, both inside the classrooms and outside in the playgrounds.  all the children were very focused and excited at the afternoon's fun!

   

   

  

• Year 6 go back in time at the Imperial War Museum!

  The Year 6 children had an excellent time exploring and learning at the Imperial War Museum on Tuesday 7th November.  They visited the WW2 exhibition where they were able to learn about what life would have been like in Morrison and Anderson shelters during the Blitz, how the war started and ended, what food was rationed and lots more! They also visited the Spies, Lies & Deception exhibition where they learnt about deception and espionage from the First World War to the present day. 

  

• Year 5 visit Ancient Egypt!

  Yesterday, Year 5 set off to the British Museum in the wonderful British weather! We had a great time navigating the museum, looking at all of the artefacts from ancient Egypt.  We saw a lot of fashion accessories, models of houses, ancient coffins and even some mummies!  Before we set off home, we got a head start into our Summer Topic by looking at the Anglo Saxon exhibits.

• Great Football Girls!

  Mr Lockwood took 10 Year 5 & 6 Girls to a football tournament in Merton on Friday 20^th October.  They had a great time and played well. Our goal scorers were Lyra, Himari and Olive and our great goal keeper, Isabella created some fantastic saves!
